Operations and Activism Officer - Full Job Description

Job purpose and scope

To be responsible for the effective and efficient running of HNH operations and HR. To promote, support and grow HOPE not hate’s network of individual supporters. To be responsible for developing and maintaining our donor & supporter database. To develop our participation in charity fundraising events and challenges.

Duties and responsibilities

The Operations and Activism Officer will:

  •  Support the work of the Deputy Director in managing the human resources elements of HOPE not hate, including but not limited to:
    • managing contracts and HR policy development
    • overseeing the reporting, verifying and approving of expenses
    • ensuring that holidays, TOIL and sick days are tracked.
  •  Support the work of the Deputy Director to manage HNH’s vendor relationships, including phone companies, tech vendors, property owner and others
  • Manage aspects of membership and donations programmes, including but not limited to maintaining all databases, interaction with supporters, mailings to members and supporters, and other engagement to best support and retain donor relationships.
  • Provide support to the team on the management of HNH data as it relates to our obligations under the GDPR regulations.
  • Liaise and work with other teams within HOPE not hate in a manner that provides a seamless narrative of one organisation committed to social justice.


Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • General interest in combating racism and in building community resilience against extremism and hatred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent general IT skills (Microsoft Office Suite including Excel & Access)
  • Competent skills in and awareness of different forms of social media
  • Ability to write for a donor audience
  • Proactive, able to take initiative and results orientated
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to plan and organise several work streams and use own time effectively.
  • Basic skills in project management and an interest in developing this skill 

Hours & Salary

This is a full time position, with a starting salary of £28,000 - £30,000p.a. depending on experience

The post holder will be comfortable working in an environment that requires discretion.
